Overview
Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of mortality in the United States. Screening is crucial to the early detection and treatment of cancers. However, guidelines for screening are not the same across various regulatory agencies, which increases the need for individualized decision-making in the clinical setting and further research and discussion in the academic setting. Due to ongoing debate about guidelines, modalities of screening, risk stratification of patients, and persisting disparities in breast cancer health outcomes, it is critical that we inform and discuss the medical community on current literature and challenges in the practice of screening patients who have or are at risk of breast cancer.
