Overview
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the population of older adults age 65+ is expected to nearly double in the next 30 years, from 43.1 million in 2012 to 83.7 million in 2050. Data from the Alzheimer’s Association 2022 Facts and Figures report projects the anticipated number of older adults 65+ with Alzheimer’s Disease will also double from 6.1 million in 2020 to 13.8 in 2060. To better support and meet the needs of America’s aging population, healthcare systems are transforming, tackling the intersections of medical, physical, and emotional needs. Participants in this lecture will recognize and understand Geriatric intersectional needs. They will hear about two initiatives which incorporate evidence-based practices and what matters to older adults in their practice: The Centers of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease across New York State and the Age Friendly Health System, a national initiative of the John A Hartford Foundation and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.
