Overview
Wilderness Medicine addressed the practice of medicine in the remote environment.  Physicians, PAs and nurses who practice in the front country may encounter novel clinical syndromes or challenging medical emergencies in the austere environment.  The sessions in this program address the most commonly encountered scenarios in the backcountry areas of the Northeastern United States.  The program intents to initiate the training of medical staff to the management of medical conditions in the wilderness.
  This program will include 4 Hours of didactics lectures delivered by regional experts will be followed by 4 hours of hands-on workshops in skills required for the wilderness medical practitioner.

Registration

Advance registration is required.  There is no on-site registration available.  Registration deadline is Thursday, April 20, 2023

Registration Fees

Residents, Students, PAs, RNs, EMTs = $25
Attending Physicians = $50

Registration includes breakfast, lunch and access to lectures and workshops.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe the common approaches to medical events commonly encountered in the austere environment of northern New York.
  2. Construct common improvised rescue systems such as litters, knots and anchors with light-weight material.
  3. Apply knowledge of medical treatment in the clinical setting to remote environments
