2023 ACR Medical Imaging Appropriateness Criteria for Providers

To address overutilization of medical imaging by educating our primary care providers on the use of clinical decision support mechanisms and the ACR appropriateness criteria using 10 specific medical imaging exams which correlate with Medicare’s 2016 Priority Clinical Areas.

To be able to access this activity you will need internet access and  a computer with Windows and the ability to view MP4 videos.

It is anticipated that it will take 2.5 hours to fully participate and complete this activity. In order to complete this activity and claim credit you must:
1) Complete the pre test.
2)Watch the videos.
3) Take and pass the post test with a grade of 80% or better
4) Complete the course evaluation
5) Claim credit by logging into your account at https://albanymed.cloud-cme.com and go into your MY CME and claim credit by typing in conference ID 11959 or by texting the Conference ID 11959to 844-914 0311. Registration is free.

1. Name indications for MRI in patients with neck pain and/or radiculopathy.
2. Interpret ACR appropriate use guidelines for various clinical scenarios regarding imaging of the chest
3. Choose appropriate initial imaging modality for neck pain and/radiculopathy based on available ACR appropriateness tables.
4. Identify red flag symptoms that require imaging of the lumbar spine.
5. Identify basic contrast safety guidelines, such as common indications and the eGFR cutoff for contrast agents
6. Identify which types of headaches require a CT of the head.
7. Identify common indications for a CT of the head in the outpatient setting.
8. Identify red flag symptoms that require imaging of the brain.
9. Identify common indications for an MRI of the brain in the outpatient
10. Recognize utility of radiographs as initial imaging modality in many outpatient clinical scenarios
11. Appropriately implement imaging in the evaluation of acute knee pain due to trauma
12. Appropriately implement imaging in the work up of chronic knee pain
13. Demonstrate an understanding of the ACR appropriateness criteria for lung cancer screening and be able accurately determine which patients are eligible for lung cancer screening programs.
14. Increase understanding of Lung-RADS grading system and radiology recommendations, including the ordering of follow-up chest CTs, for patients in lung cancer screening programs.
15. Understand clinical scenarios that the ACR considers usually appropriate for obtaining shoulder MRI
16. Compare and contrast the utility of non-contrast shoulder MRI and shoulder MR arthrogram
17. Discuss different available imaging modalities to abdominal pain.
18. Discuss the appropriate imaging modality to evaluate patients presenting with general and regional abdominal pain.
19. Discuss different etiologies of general and regional abdominal pain.
