Overview
Arteriovenous fistula is the preferred dialysis access to provide hemodialysis. AVF has better morbidity, mortality, less need for procedures, and lower cost when
compared to other hemodialysis access options [i.e. arteriovenous graft (AVG) and tunneled hemodialysis catheters (TDC)]. However, AVF is complicated by
primary failure in 20-60% of the time. In this session we discuss updates on where we stand in preventing primary failure, current research, and future directions.

Registration
No Pre registration is required.  Program if free of charge.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Discuss current understanding of primary failure
  2. Describe current existing research to reduce primary failure
  3. Discuss future directions of research to reduce primary failure rate
