Overview
The Junior Faculty Development Program (JFDP) at Albany Medical College is designed to enhance the academic and professional development of assistant professors in clinical and basic science through a year-long curriculum focused on research, teaching and leadership. An essential element of the program is the development of a scholarly project conducted with the guidance of a senior faculty mentor. The curriculum is designed for all junior faculty including research scientists, clinician-scientists, and clinician-educators. Instructors are drawn from Albany Medical College faculty and from experts outside the institution. The JFDP is based on a program introduced at Penn State Medical School that has become a successful model for junior faculty development nationally. Since the program was implemented at Albany Medical College in 2016, 90 junior faculty members and 60 senior faculty mentors have participated. 2024-2025 JFDP curriculum sessions will be held from 7 a.m.-9 a.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of the month (Aug 7, 2024 through May 28, 2025). The expected time commitment is 2-4 hours per week. Due to the highly integrated and interactive nature of the program, participants are expected to attend all sessions. JFDP participants will also participate in the Kick-Off Dinner on August 7, the Mid-Year Research Poster Event on Feb. 5, and the Graduation Dinner on June 11. Participants earn CME credits for completing the program.
