Overview

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools have the ability to quickly find clinical information and literature. Concerns arise with these tools regarding accuracy of the information and the possibility for perpetuating deskilling or loss of critical thinking due to overreliance on this technology. To offset this concern, evaluation of the tools used, along with critically appraising the results, are necessary to reinforce independent learning and reasoning.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Recognize institutional faculty primary generative AI uses and concerns
  2. Identify ways to decrease clinical deskilling
  3. Recognize the need to critically appraise both the AI tool and the responses produced by the generative AI tools
  4. Apply journal AI guidelines during manuscript preparation and writing
  5. Examine potential impacts that AI tools may introduce
