Overview

Breaking Nicotine’s Grip on Adolescents: A Two-Part Series for Providers

This two-part webinar series equips frontline providers with practical, evidence-based strategies to address rising nicotine use among adolescents, including vaping devices and nicotine pouches. Part 1 (A Framework for Providers) focuses on current trends in youth nicotine use, screening and assessment, validated tools to measure dependence, and effective counseling approaches. Participants will explore the provider’s role in early

intervention and prevention, with guidance on integrating local behavioral supports and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) resources into clinical practice.

Part 2 (Pharmacotherapy for Youth Tobacco & Nicotine Cessation) reviews the evidence and practical use of pharmacotherapy for adolescent nicotine cessation. Topics include safety and regulatory considerations for patients under 18, current evidence and limitations for NRT, bupropion, and varenicline, and stepwise treatment strategies. Case-based examples highlight shared decision-making, dosing, combining medication with behavioral supports, and structured follow-up
