2022 Acute Ischemic Stroke Conference

This conference will review the latest concepts in the management of ischemic stroke. The goal is to provide the practitioner with knowledge of accurate diagnosis and treatment of ischemic stroke, including treatment options for both primary and secondary stroke prevention. In particular, the conference will focus on accurate assessment of patients who are appropriate candidates for transfer to a Comprehensive Stroke Center for advanced level of care. Case presentations will review individual patient assessment and decision for treatment, emphasizing the latest evidence-based advanced treatments.

1. Identify the signs and symptoms consistent with acute ischemic stroke.
2. List the risks and benefits of interventional management of acute ischemic stroke
3. List characteristics of patients who should be sent directly to comprehensive stroke centers
4. Discuss the hyperacute approach to the patient with acute ischemic stroke.
5. Identify strategies for elucidating the etiology of acute stroke.
6. List the risks and benefits in the use of Tenecteplase over Alteplase
7. List appropriate long term treatments for the prevention of secondary stroke.
8. Describe the literature surrounding the expansion of the pool of candidates for interventional management of acute ischemic stroke
9. Describe the workup for causes of ischemic stroke
10. Identify the best approach for diagnosing occult atrial fibrillation
11. Describe the best management for patent foramen ovale

4. List appropriate long term treatments for the prevention of secondary stroke.
