2022 The Elephant in the Room: How to Approach Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT)

Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) is a comprehensive and integrated public health approach focused on early intervention and treatment.  This method is applicable to patients with both substance use disorders and other medical conditions.  This training is aimed to equip healthcare professionals with the tools to perform a quick and universal screening, provide appropriate intervention as needed and facilitate referral to additional treatment if necessary.  Given the tremendous rise in drug and alcohol use, this type of training is vital for health care workers to feel equipped to address the risks of alcohol and substance use early with their patients.
