From the neuroscience of addiction to the latest public health approaches, sessions will highlight emerging issues such as vaping-related lung injury, evidence-based treatments for opioid use disorder, and practical strategies for tobacco and nicotine cessation. This program blends cutting-edge research, policy updates, and hands-on clinical tools to inform and inspire all who are dedicated to improving patient care and advancing the field of addiction medicine.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify biological risk factors for substance use disorder
  2. Discuss stigma surrounding treatment of opioid use disorder
  3. Describe the SBIRT training model at Albany Medical College
  4. Identify the health consequences of vaping in adolescents and young adults
  5. Describe public health resources for treating substance use disorders in the Capital District
  6. Compare practical counseling points when recommending cessation pharmacotherapy
