Overview

This symposium provides a comprehensive update on the diagnosis, multidisciplinary management, and rehabilitation of patients with oral cavity cancer. Topics include early detection, surgical and nonsurgical treatment strategies, defect reconstruction, and management of treatment-related complications: pain, speech, swallow, osteoradionecrosis, lymphedema, etc. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based practice, emerging technologies, and coordinated care to optimize oncologic and functional outcomes.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Recognize precancer and oral cavity cancer, with appropriate referral
  2. Discuss general treatment paradigm of oral cavity cancer
  3. Describe surgical, radiation, systemic therapies in oral cavity cancer
  4. Discuss treatments related side effects and rehabilitation
  5. Identify the multidisciplinary team involvement in the course of treatment
