The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program is designed to provide important information about neonatal stabilization for maternal/infant healthcare providers in all settings; from community hospitals and birth centers, to emergency rooms and more complex hospital environments. Goal 1: Improve patient safety for infants by: Standardizing processes and approach to care Encouraging teamwork Identifying areas where medical errors can and do occur Reducing and eliminating preventable adverse events and errors Goal 2: Organize this information using a mnemonic to assist with retention and recall of stabilization activities that are critical for the post-resuscitation/pre-transport care of sick infants.

4. 4. Describe the key principles in the recognition and management of shock in a sick newborn
5. 5. Describe the key lab work required in the management of a sick newborn
6. 6. Define the key principles of situation crisis for families attempting to cope with a sick newborn
7. 7. Describe the rationale and process for evaluation of the quality of the transport.
